Best practices for drug testing in the workplace:
Make sure your City has a policy in place before any employee is drug tested
Review “safety sensitive” positions – Update job descriptions to ensure safety sensitive duties and responsibilities are clearly specified
Do NOT put employees in the random pool that are not safety sensitive
Do NOT ask to see an employee’s medical marijuana license
Use reputable testing facility
Keep matters confidential (need to know basis)
