Best practices for drug testing in the workplace:
Make sure your City has a policy in place before any employee is drug tested
Review “safety-sensitive” positions – Update job descriptions to ensure safety-sensitive duties and responsibilities are clearly specified
Do NOT put employees in the random pool that are not safety-sensitive
Do NOT ask to see an employee’s medical marijuana license
Use a reputable testing facility
Keep matters confidential (need to know basis)
